hi there everyone. first post on this forum, so hello!

anyway, i bought a wj 1999 4.0 jeep grand cherokee the other week, great car, everything is fine, touch wood. but one stupid problem is when i bought the car, the dealer said " as you can see it comes with a detachable towbar" so i looked and there it was.. i did not think to check where the actual tow ball was!!! the dealer i bought it from is not helpful, doesnt want to know, so i need to know if i can buy them separetely. mine is a mopar one, and has a metal plate saying part numbers and model numbers etc, surely that has some use? i rang my local dealer and they couldn't help! i can't afford 400 quid for a new one! all i need is the tow ball bit, all the electrics and where the tow ball goes is all fine!
somebody help please.....

 

Im not quite sure what you are talking about but I assume you are talikng about a rear hitch reciever. If you need the ball that the trailer hooks to, you can get them online or at a local auto parts store. Im assuming this is what you are talking about.....

 

your picture is exactly what i need, thank you...where do i get the whole hitch reciever from, i have not got the bar that goes into the reciever or the tow ball.. i am in the uk....basically i need everything that is in your picture....any help or where to get it from would be great.....what is the actual name of the tow bar on your picture? i just need to get one asap.

 

just looking at it again, have you got a picture of where the ball hitch goes into, so i can see if its the same as mine...

i have found all what i need for about 38 dollars, so thats not a problem...

 

Those are called, Ball mounts or Draw Bars, some people call them stingers too.

If yours looks similar to this, then the pic above is what you need. You should have a class III hitch, that has a 2" (50.8mm) square opening in the receiver.

In the US you can buy those just about anywhere, I am sure plenty of stores overthere should have them. ( home improvement stores, lowes, home depot, walmart, hardware stores, offroad stores, boat/RV shops, trailer shops, truck rental places, etc...)

mine is slightly different...

the part number on the tow bar on my jeep is 82204494, looked it up on google and nothing, but then a website said the part number was superceeded by 82207009...lots of pics came up...

here is a link to a picture on ebay that shows what is on my car and there is even a picture of the tow ball bar that fits into it....

if anybody can tell me where to get one of these tow ball bars from, i will be such a happy man!!! whether its in the uk or usa...

i have attched the picture i saw on ebay for all of you to see.. you can see on the picture i have curcled the tow ball bit and it has two prongs coming out the side of it, where i think it locks in to the reciever..

i am desperate to get a tow ball sorted as i am going to be towing my race car soon..

i went on e trailer, but none of them will fit this one, as they all come with a pin which locks it in to the receiver. my one doesnt have that.

 

There must be a bit of a differance between US spec and Euro spec ball mounts. If yours does not use the lock pin I had pictured then Im stumped...

 

Hi I'm in the uk aswell. I think there Is a difference in the factory fitted towbar/ ball hitch between US and UK. None of my wj,s have had the hitch receiver style tow bar, mine have had Swan necks. You can buy receiver style in the Uk, though they are harder to find. I found a few online recently, sorry don't remember what site. There was one on eBay last week. If it's just the ball end you need try searching for a swan neck toe ball

Found them on eBay. Search jeep tow bar swan and it brings up a load to choose from :-)
