Depending on the mileage, I'd put a new set of plugs in it and check the condition of the wires, cap, and rotor. Load test the battery to see how much life is left in it. At low temperatures, the battery's condition can deteriorate quickly. Run some fuel injector cleaner in a couple of tanks of gas and you should be good to go. OH! Check the freeze protection of the coolant. If last winter is any indication, you may find really low temps. It got to -35*F here in Syracuse once last winter. It never got above 0*F for a week! If you buy a new battery, don't go overboard with the CCA. Stick with what's recommended for your jeep. Mine is a 650 CCA @ 0*F and it was plenty. That's 800 CA @ 32*F.

The only time I have the starting trouble is when I short-start it. That is; release the key before it actually fires. I know that's dumb, but it usually kicks after 2 cylinders compress and I sometimes expect it to fire and it doesn't. Hold it cranking until it actually starts to run, don't be stupid like me! Also, when it's really cold out, turn the key on and wait a few seconds before cranking it. That gives the electronics time to warm up a bit. After it starts, I shift to neutral to pressurize the transmission and get the fluid circulating for a while before I shift it into gear. This gives those old hard 0-rings a change to get flexible and seal better. Another thing you can do to make the tranny last longer is don't stop a reverse roll with the shifter, that is; shifting to drive to stop it. It overstresses the forward clutch which wasn't designed as a brake!
