Rubber Diff Plugs
So I saw somewhere on here a homebrew to replace the rubber differential plugs and was wondering if anyone knows what I'm talking about.
I searched for about 20 minutes now and still haven't found anything useful...

I found this, if you like welding.

Your best bet is probably to get an aftermarket cover. I would think you could tap threads into the existing hole, but perhaps the cover is too thin. That's the way I'd go if I were to mod my stock cover.

Old fart with a wrench
The last time I pulled inventory at Valvoline Instant Oil Change, we had about 100 in stock. I'm sure other places who shall remain un-named have them also. They are not hard to find and don't usually leak when submerged in water. Unless you spent at lot of time "swimming", I don't see the need to change to something else, although Jeep recommends checking the diffs anytime you enter water above the axle centerline, likewise the trans and TC. At Valvoline, if we found one leaking, we usually popped in a new one, always with an axle service. We also stocked most popular engine oil drain plugs in case someone had overtighten one and stretched the threads. Anytime someone asked about buying one, we usually handed him one because there was no option on the computer for recording the sale. BUT, that was about 15 years ago.
If you really are serious about changing to something else, an aftermarket cover is the answer, or a stock cover before Mopar got their hands on it. You can search Dana 35 to find out what other brands used this axle, or D44 for that matter. If you go for the weld option, be careful not to distort the cover from the heat. I once ruined a Hemi oil pan by welding a change in it for an engine swap. I need frame clearance to put it in a different car and warped it too much.
If yours is leaking, check your axle vent.
