00 WJ 4.0 .... So engine was making a ton of noise sounded like bottom end tore it down “dropped the oil pan” and yes new bearings are needed . I numbered everything as it came out/apart including every last drop of oil . Ran to the parts store and order some bearings.picked them up the next day finished cleaning everything and got after it . As I went to throw the bearings in I noticed they didn’t have the oil hole in them as the stock ones did. So I stopped there and now looking for advice . Called the store and they said I’m good . Honestly, I don’t trust that opinion so did not go back to it . And now I’m here Am I go good to go or should I replace them with the holy ones even tho I’m not much into religion? Any input will help ! I need to get this thing back o the ro-ad . Lamberfeeties are done footing it everywhere. Thx All 🤙🏼🍻
There should be notches on the parting line of the bearing halves that supply oil to the squirt holes in the rods for cylinder oiling. If you have holes in the center of the caps, they are for oil supply to passages up the center of the rods to oil the wrist pins on some engines, but not on the 4.0. If your old bearings don't have those notches, someone used the wrong bearings before you got the jeep.
BTW, did you check the mains? I'll betcha they need replacing as well + the rear seal. A good time to address that.
