Default Engine makes a "knocking noise"

Stupid I know, but I unknowingly ran my Jeep without any oil in it. By the time I realized it, it was already make a loud "knocking noise." Before I sell it, or drop money on a new engine and labor, does anybody have an idea of what it might be? I'm holding out that it's just something we can try to fix ourselves...

Pull the oil pan and check the main & rod bearings, and replace if needed, along with a new oil pump & pick-up. JMO
And Welcome to CF!

Do you know about how much it is to do that? Is it something we could do at home, or is it better to take it in?

lol just did this and yes it is possible to do at ur house but to do it you take the bolts loose from oil pan and before u drop it u have o take the oil pump off first then lift the body up on the front and not by the suspension and it should pull out. check with your local parts store for prices on crank bearings as well as connecting rod bearings this all can be done with out pulling the motor out like i said i just did it to a 93 country
