Default Resting Battery Voltage - 2104 JGC ?

Hey all...

New to the site so hello to you all. I have a 2014 JGC EcoDiesel. (Yes, I have all the fixes for the DEF/CAT issues. Even have the added plate to protect the pump.)

I am wondering what you may see for the resting battery voltage?

I just went to a Jeep dealer to have may battery replaced. They did not replace it as they said it tested fine. Yet I showed them that the battery was only 11.6v when just sitting there with the engine off. They said...and I quote..."That is normal." Huh? A 12v AGM battery rated at 700 CA (Cranking Amps) sits at 11.6V?

They showed me the test equipment print out...It read that the rated CA was 700 and it tested at 580. It also showed the voltage to be 12.65V and this the battery "passed". But again, I showed them that it was sitting at 11.6v. The reason they said was it has "a lot of things that are on like computers". AUGH!!!!

So, if anyone has the time and cares to check theirs, or if you know, I would love to know.

It surely should be 12.5V to 12.8V I would think.

Thank you in advance.

How are you checking battery voltage? 11.6V is nearly dead and probably would not be able to start your diesel engine. If it starts, its certainly above 12.0 V.
Yes, a good, fully charged but resting battery voltage is about 12.6 - 12.7V.
Even 12.5V is not fully charged.

Hi Nick...Tested right at the battery under the seat and also verified via Bluetooth can bus reader. Even showed the dealer. But yes, totally agree the battery surely is not right dropping volts that quick after running. My thought, which turned out to be correct, was a bad cell. How or why they said it was fine I have no idea. Pulled the battery, took it to an auto zone, in less than 10 mins it was shown. Bought a battery, called Mopar, got it all handled even sending them the dealer info on the poor service.

Oh well. What killed me the most was the service manger telling it that it was "normal" because of the "computers". Hummmm

Thank you kindly for the reply.

Too many service managers are college trained and not brought up thru the service ranks. They also tend to push the corporate agenda in that once your jeep is off warranty, they either want to rape you or have nothing to do with you. At my local dealership, the parts manager is a great guy who knows about jeeps. The service manager, on the other hand, is an A-whole!

Those who can? Do. Those who can't? Management. At least that is how it works at my place of employment.
