Default replacing shocks on a lifted jeep

so i took my 96 XJ country in for an alignment and was told that my upper shock mount bushing on my rear shocks are shot. Well my shocks leak a little anyhow so i figured i'd replace all four, however i'm lifted 3.5inches and was wondering if i could use regular shocks from advance or do i now have to buy shocks for a cherokee 3.5" lift?

You need shocks for a lifted Cherokee. Bilstein 5100 are well priced and fairly well performing.

That's what i was afraid of. Well since i have to have shocks for a lifted XJ do the shocks have to match the lift?

they have to match the length of the lift

they dont have to match the brand, if thats what youre asking

i was always getting bds shocks for their price and ease to get where i live

recently switched over to the aforementioned bilstein 5100s

recommend you getting bar pin eliminators...i was always ruining bushings before the shocks were done...shocks last longer since the bpe's installed

you can google xj bpe and get 11ty results....lotsa companies make em

i went with jks 9604

they all do the same, essentially squish the bushing so it doesnt move side to side

stock bar pin theres no lateral support so the shock slides side to side, wears out the bushing, makes a clunk, etc..

also, lol....when you go to remove your shocks youll likely get the upper bolts **** up on you, seized cuz of age

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/re...-bolts-214176/

time consuming, and dirty, but easy

if you end up going 5100s and bpes, this thread will be useful

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/ba...r-pins-219834/

order the new bushings from the thread

No doubt that Bilsteins are a good choice for lifted rigs. Good quality and will provide good ride.

Bilsteins are a very good shock. But if you're just looking to get it fixed quick Monroe shocks from advance can be had CHEAP. Buy online pick up in store using an online coupon code. I've done it for 2 Jeeps before I upgraded shocks on both.

Do a quick search for Monroe shocks for "[inches of lift]" and you'll get lots of part numbers for Monroe shocks for your lift.

Spend a bit more and get RE monotubes (made by Bilstein and valved to RE specs for the XJ) or Bilsteins 5100s. If you're going to invest go for quality. I wasted too much personally trying to save money on cheap shocks. I just couldn't believe there was that much difference until I installed 5100s. Major difference in ride, feel and stability.

JK Rubi take offs would be good. Can usually be had for under 100$ for a full set. BPE would be required in the front. Some stock rear sway bar mounts, slightly modified would work.
Depending on what your local auto part store carries, you may be able to find shocks for a lifted XJ, but not the least expensive way to go.

not tryin to go super cheap but not tryin to go super exspensive either, i'm not gettin a lot back in taxes but what i am gettin is enough to buy shocks, track bar, front windsheild and BPE for the front and rear. For these JK Rubis where could i find those?
