Reprogramming security keys
2006 GCL
Ok, Have done this twice now. I bought a set of blank keys and followed the reprogramming instructions. 1st key 10 seconds, 2nd key 10 seconds insert new key. After a couple weeks one of the keys ceased to function correctly. We could still drive with it but the remote entry functions were not functioning correctly. They remote open would not work but the lock function would unlock the doors.
I ordered a new set and used the one good key plus an original to program the new keys. Same thing, after a few weeks the one of the keys remote features ceased to function. You can still drive with.
I chalked the first one up to cheap chinese imports, but what is the chances the second key set could have a faulty transponder as well?
At this point I'm about to let the dealer stick it to me so I don't have to deal with it any longer.
Any ideas as to cause? What would a dealer charge me to fix?

I take it these aren't RFD chip keys, but ones with active transmitters in them? If that's the case, they need a power source to function, either an internal battery or a capacitor that gets charged whenever you use them. I know up 'til 04, they were simple chip keys that transmitted a code when in the field of the SKIM module. In other words energized remotely. These vehicles require a separate remote transmitter to unlock the doors.

Okay, so apparently the receiver is forgetting the code. Sounds to me like a trip to the dealer.
