Default Problem with tape player :(

I don't know if this is a common problem but whenever I try to put a tape in my 1998 GC (factory Infinity Gold crap) it will take it and try and read it for about 10 seconds. During those ten seconds it goes back and forth between the reading direction. I dont know what to do Because the tapes aren't broken (brand new stuff). HELP????

Theres not really any need to replace because everything else works fine. I just want some help so I can listen to some tapes I just picked up.

If I remember correctly Radioshack still has a Cassette head cleaner. I would try that.

Do you think I could clean it with Q-tips? Like NES cartridges?

You could try but I think personally it would do more harm than good. Unless the q tips you have don't frail at all.

Woa, that alcohol/swab will jack it up worse.

Go buy a cassette head cleaner from the goodwill when you buy your cassettes.

Or try to spray that aerosol air that people use on computers and keyboards.
