Default Is it possible to turn 4x4 to 4x2?

My Grand Cherokee Limited is all time 4x4. I read somewhere that it's possible to remove the front shaft and make the jeep a rear wheel drive only or remove the rear shaft and turn it to a front wheel drive.

Is this possible or just BS?

I heard that if you take the front drive shaft off, it will roll while its in park...

I did see a guy that a junk yard with a front wheel drive cherokee though... not sure how road safe it was though...

You can run without the front but not the rear.

If you really want to be 2WD only then you can slap a 2WD frontend under it and remove the tranny/transfercase and replace it with a 2WD version. Get a frontend alignment and you are ready to go.

Had to run my truck home without a front prop, and there were no problems.

Done it without a rear prop, too, but that took a bit more inginuity to stop the TC dumping its fluid.

Taking the front DS out really does nothing different(other than stop the transfer of torque to the diff),everything is still spinning in the front because there are no lockout hubs on jeeps. You can buy a conversion kit to do this but it will set you back about grand or so.
