Possible axle swap
I have a 98 GC 4x4, with a bad trans, I'm looking at possibly buying a 97 4x2 that needs a rear-end. Will the axle off the 4x4 work on the 4x2, or is it a different size/spline/ratio? I can get the 4x2 cheap enough to justify the swap as long as it's a 1to1 swap.

Depends on the gear ratio, other than that should be a direct swap.
Its either going to be a d35, or d44a.
So long as the ratios match you can swap away.

Actually, if you're going to drive the 4x2 and trash the 4x4, any ratio will work. If the ratio is different, you'll have to swap the speed sensor gear. Or not.
