new trans but stuck in 3rd
So I decided to have my Transmission rebuilt on my 95 GC Laredo. Before doing so it was having a problem where sometimes especially when it was cooler it would start but not really be in normal gear, but stuck in 3rd.
Usually after the engine warmed up you could restart and get it to go into gear correctly.
The Vechicle has 220k mi and it wasn't shifting right even when it was in gear. So I had it redone thinking this would fix all the problems.
Now it shifts and responds great when properly in gear. But still has the problem of being stuck in 3rd a lot and it's getting worse. The transmission guy says that it's responding the same as if he disconnects it from power so it seems the transmission isn't being turned "on". When this happens the OD light is also on indicating overdrive off. When stuck shifting down to 1st puts it in 2nd.
He says that it's possibly the ignition switch but he's not sure and suggested taking it to the dealer for diagnosis. I rather not go to a dealer unless I really need to.
Has anyone experienced this before?

Old fart with a wrench
Sounds to me like a transmission control module problem.
