Default loss of 4 high in my all time 4wd

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo v8 all time 4wd. I have lost 4 high I can only engage 4 low. If I try to put it back in to 4 high it grinds and pushes it back out. Is there an easy fix for this.

Please help. I love my jeep and dont want to have to sell it. Seems everyone wants it but no one is willing to point me in the right direction to fix it. Other then a shop and I cant afford that. My son wants to work on it in school. (but has to know what needs done and parts there before he can tear into it.)

Please Please help

Replace the transfer case with an NP231 and never have to worry about the viscous coupler again. These aren't Bic lighters, an automobile can be repaired.

You cant go wrong with an np231, you can find them from 100-200 used or at a junk yard, make sure it comes out of a jeep under 95' or you may come into issues with the input gears, newer ones are different, i rn into that issue when i swaped transmissions on my jeep.

Good luck.

he will have to swap inputs no matter what. the 93-95 V8 ZJs had a 1.55" 23 spline input. the 249 was the only case that ever had that input. early XJ 242s and 231s had a .740" 21 spline input, then i think around 92 or 93 they changed to a 23 spline. but still too short.

well all that really matters is swapping inputs is expensive and its a *****. after all the input gear is what turned my weekend tranny swap into a month long repair haha
