how to remove/loose valve retainer lock?

how to remove/loose valve retainer lock?
Hi, i'm removing my valve for a cleanup. I have the spring compressions tools that compress the spring, like this http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/p...s/?product=534 But the lock/keeper want get loose. I have got two loose by using a big wooden glue press and a nut on the top of the valve. When i then screw that tight there is a snap/sound and then i can use the compression tools and get to keeper out. It look like the keeper is "glued" to the retainer? is this a ok way to do it, or do i need to use a compression tools like this http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/p...s/?product=267
By the way, my compressions tools did cost me 200$ in Norway since i couldnt wait :-(

The first link is for compressing valve spring while the head is still on the vehicle, and the cylinder is under air pressure to stop the valve from dropping.
The second is for doing this with cyl head off the block.
Which are you attempting to do?
I just did valve stem seals for a member here. The keepers can stick. I was advised of a trick that helped me loosen them, take a socket of the appropriate size and a hammer... tap the top of the spring assembly a few times, you'll quickly get a feel for when the keepers come loose. Dont do this TOO hard as the keepers can pop off..
The second is for doing this with cyl head off the block.

^^pretty much the same as I do. When you reassemble them, put a dab of grease
on them. It'll help hold them in place while the remove the compressor.
oh, and a pencil type magnet will aid in removal too, once they're loose.

^^ Magnet... and an old rag to cover all holes on top of the cyl head that the keepers can possibly fall into and ruin your day.
Obviously keep all rocker assemblies and push rods in an order where they go back to the same position.

then i screw it in and hear a snap sound, then i can use my compression tools and compress the spring and remove the keepers.

I did go and buy a cheap valvespringcompressor and used a socket on that and used a hammer to tap it. 1-2 small tap and its loose. Then i used my other springcompressor and removed the retainers. I tried to only use the valvespringcompressor on the picture, but there wasnt any way that the retainer would loose without a litle tap from a hammer.
