When you said the CEL was on what codes is it kicking out. And I would pull all the fuses and replace the headlight switch.

I used to do flood victims all the time but you are leaving something out here.

1" past the lighter? Well mine is down low and all modules are higher than that so how much water??????????

Next the battery should have been disconected ASAP and the truck towed to a paint booth to bake 2.5 hours.

Oh it's a salt water victim (Ouch)

Well you didn't post the year but that doesn't matter much now does it?
When it comes to salt water the best you can do is get a gallon of WD40 and a bug sprayer and soak everything because the rust is on it's way big time!

Next find a donor vehicle for the harness because this truck Will become your worst electricle nightmare if you don't replace the harness.
I'd also soak the doors and drill the rockers and spray them too.

Side note, During Ike I was watching all of you flood into Austin. When asked if I was an evacuee I said yes and they told me so sorry. I said yeah they thought it was going to snow up north and sent me south to be warm. Even the evacuee's thought that was funny.

forget it. salt water is going to lead to more problems then you think of now and beat you later. by a donor rig and transfer tires lift etc.

well according to the corps of engineers, our flood water was mostly from the bay, meaning alot lower salt,
what do you mean harness...wiring harness

this jeep was perfect, no blemish,no dents, interior was like new
everything worked perfect, ran perfect
hate to give up a car like that, and...it has never been in the shop
except for regular oil changes,etc..
brakes , plugs, wires, etc all orgianl

Well you never gave any specifics like year model, engine, tranny, transfer case or differentials. There are many different manuals to look though.

well, its a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo,
6 cyl,
auto transmission
2 wheel drive
power windows, door locks, with alarm, a/c
cruise, tilt, rear window defogger, wiper, washer

this is my 4th jeep in 20 years..but also the first one ive really
had to work on myself..so its a challenge, but also rewarding after the hurricane i guess.

This whole thread was moved to GC area as soon as I discovered what Jeep you have. The diagrams for a GC are some that I don't have. You may find more help now that you are in the right spot karnavor!!

I could be wrong but I have a 93 and a 95 Grand (and a 93 on the way home) and the fuse pannel is on the right outside of the dash when you open the passenger side door and the second panel is on the passengerside under the hood near the battery.

I have a 93-95 diagram but can't post it here.
