Default Cv boot HELP

My cv boot is cracked. How should I go about replacing this? What do I all have to take off?

I'd take the axle off and take it to an axle shop in your area.

A shop manual will give you step by step instructions on how to pull an axle.

I'm not sure how much it costs you in your area to get new axles but around here you can get the boots replaced for $30 an axle.

Since you've gotta pull them anyway, why not save a couple bucks? Not like its any more or less work. Just less money out of pocket.

If the boot is open you are supposed to disassemble the joint, inspect all components for damage, reassemble, and repack with grease. a good way to pack the joint is to find a broom handle that will fit in the center and push it down to force the grease sideways into all areas of the joint. Time consuming, but not hard. If you dont feel comfortable doing this, then replace the axle shaft. not too expensive and much quicker

The link to the part you were looking at would really help, but from the sound of it, yes, that'd be a complete replacement.

Still gonna have to remove your old one.

In answer to your ? First you have to loosen the axle nut in the center of your wheel, then jack up jeep ,remove your tire and wheel. Next remove your brake caliper and hang it up out of the way. Remove brake rotor then find a 13mm 12point socket and remove the 3 bolts that hold the wheel bearing assembly on. Then remove the bearing assembly, I use a real sharp chiesel and pound it between the hub and backing plate until the bearing comes out , you then can pull out your axle. Be very careful when puting the axle back in so that you dont ruin the inner seal.
