A/C Evaporator Core repair
I belive if I am to have A/C I will have to replace the evap coil myself as well. I read the complete thread, and reading that the dash and steering wheel my not have to be removed, perked my interest. However I am not looking to break new ground, if the majority have followed the instructions with sucess I would be truly greatful if there was a way to obtain a copy of them. My engine compartment is perfectly clean, the other morning, at startup, no ac. a friend filled the 134a and the ac worked great for the 20 mile ride home. next morning, no ac. The only spot I can find is on the frame, under the rubber drain tube, on the fire wall. So I think its a bad evap coil, and would realy appreciate any help available, for my 2001 XJ 4x4 auto, 4L. Thank you.
Hey ol"blue - I too am wishing to avoid a $1,200 bill for a core replacement - if you can pm a guide it would be great!! (bet you have it on "speed dial" by the look of this thread...)

I too have a 4x4 Cherokee with a likey evaporator leak or hose leak in the dash. No sign of dye anywhere else in the system and it holds charge for about 48 hours.
Tips on confirming the location and the guide mentioned would be very useful
I have a quote of $1200 to repair, but am tempted to tackle the job myself.

I am in the same boat. I have a 1998 JGC. I changed the compressor, drier and orifice line but the evaporator is now leaking and it is in need of changing. I cannot bear the thought of >$1000 on this, so can I get the instructions too? Thank you!

And Welcome to CF.
Thanks for the Imfo ol"blue, I plan to tackle this this weekend, prettyshure it the evap coil. put 250 psi nitrogen in , and lost 50 lbs in 15 miniuts, could not hear, or see any leaks, or oil anywhere under the hood. so I am almost shure its in the evap coil. The only thing that concerns me is making shure the air bags, dont cause me any problems. I did not see in the manuals how to address that. Can you shed some light, as to where it is addressed in the manual in section 8E, or tell me what steps to take? Thank you, very much.
