Been reading allot of this thread and just got my illustrious news about replacement, I would like to try it myself. If there is instructions for replacing the evaporator coil it would be great to get them. Thanks
This Jeep has been a nightmare for me, I think it is cursed! LOL

Ol'blue. This is a great thread, looks like you have been helping folks for the past 3 years with this! I am new to the forum and like others I will be fixing my heater core soon, if you could send me your instructions that would be great. Thanks again. Ryan

I'm sending you a Private Message, and you're welcome.
For anyone who is going to attempt this let me tell you that it is pretty easy if you TAKE YOUR TIME! The dash removal isnt hard if keep track of all the bolt, screws and nuts. I suggest that for every piece you take apart you put those srews in a plastic bag and tap it to the part so you dont loose them. I ended up with no extra pieces at the end!! It took me 8 hours to remove, replace the evap core and heater core, then reassemble everything. I also suggest that you remove the front seats as this helped me move around much better. There are a few videos on youtube.com for dash removal of a grand cherokee 99-04, that i followed step by step. I found it a much easier to watch that on my laptop while i worked. Just search youtube for grand cherokee dash removal. There is a part 1,2 and 3. Thank you Ol' Blue for your help! it made it mcuh easier for me to do this.
Is there a way to know for sure it is the evaporator core before you go to all the expense. I have put a couple cans of charge in with the dye but can't locate any leaks or see any dye in the drainage on the floor. There is an odd smell in the cabin from the vents that smells industrial, I guess would be the best way to describe it. I just would hate to go through all the expense if that was not the problem. It usually takes several days for the AC charge to be depleted.

Ran into an issue like this. Diagnosed as evap core when I put UV light on the puddle of water that came out of the drain tube for the evap. The tube itself looked radioactive with UV light on it. The dye will mix with the water that forms around the evaporator. Hard to see with the naked eye because its dilutes but the UV light makes it glow.
