A/C Evaporator Core repair
Sort of off topic here, I know, but does anyone have any advice on how to get a broken piece of cap out of the a/c charging fittings/connection? It seems the cap on the connection fitting for the high pressure side had broken sometime ago (don't know when) and a part of it was left behind and it's stuck inside the fitting. I've tried pulling it out with needle nose pliers, WD40 and pick tools but it seems to be embedded in there. I was wonder if someone had a trick or two up their sleeve.
Thanks
Thanks

Hello everyone. I found this site by searching for "ZJ evaporator install" and I see there's a fellow on here named Ol' Blue that has a tech write up? Can I have view of this as well? My jeeps a 97 Grand with the 5.2 and I thought for sure I had my A/C problem solved by replacing the Condenser, but as usual, it's just not that easy. I'm afraid the evaporator coil is next.
Thanks alot,
Howard

bomeister, I would try taking a very small flat blade screw driver and chiseling (sp?) it out. Maybe you could crack it and get it out in pieces or just dent it enough to turn it out. Otherwise, maybe a small drill, but be careful with that.
Good luck,

Bomeister, I had the same problem. But it eventually solidified itself in there and i was never able to get it out
the pressure valve and all still worked but i never trusted it. So i just replaced the whole line. I wish they made it where the fitting just screwed off. O well....
also O'l Blue, i used your pages you sent me and this past weekend tore into it! Changed the complete system! Took me alot longer than expected. Overall probably 12 hours. But i was doing the under the hood stuff also. And decided once i got that core box out that i would go ahead and change the heater core just incase! I NEVER wanna do this job again!
But, put it all together and eveything on the dash and all worked and o've had ice cold AC now for a week
and i am one happy dude! O ya and you know how old cars get that nasty moldy smell in them! I was able to use lysol and clean that whole box and all my ductwork while i was in there and now it smell like fresh air breeze when i kick it on
Ill upload some pics later....

Ol' Blue, I would also like to join the legion of folks you have helped with this fun task of replacing the Evaporator, if you would, please send me your helpful instructions. You are a great example to all of us!
I have 1 a 1999 Cherokee.
Thanks again!

Ol' Blue, perfect information! Thank you so much!!!
Now all I have to do is apply some elbow grease and get this done! These 100 plus days are getting old, almost to hot to work on it!!
