Question A/C compressor cycling on for only 2 sec.

It cycles on for 2 seconds, then disengages for ten seconds and back on again for 2. I ran some searches and read about a cycling switch? Does anyone think this might be what is wrong with mine? Where is the cycling switch and is it something I can buy at the auto parts store? Thanks for reading.

Does it cool?

The compressor will cycle based on internal pressure and ambient temperature. Mine cools great and sometimes short cycles like that.

when it is not engaged it shows high pressure, then engages for a couple sec. the pressure starts to drop, I had it recharged last year so unless it leaked over the winter I assume it has a good charge. it does not blow cold air. I have one of the home recharge bottles but the compressor does not engage long enough to fill it. Thanks for the help.

Default same issue in 2001 grand cherokee 4.7 ltr

I am having the exact same issue. no cold air. cycles for 2 seconds, a single popping sound, pressure drops completely off, then cycles again, building pressure, the pop, and pressure drops off. any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

If your freon is to low the compressor won't run. My XJ did the same thing. I slowly dumped freon in and it started running.

Yep. Be careful not to overcharge. The xj doesn't take much freon. 20oz (1.25lb) for my '00
