Alarm, Radio & Other Minor Problems!
Hi All,
Nice to be here!
I'm Steve from the UK and I have a 99 WJ Grand 4.7 V8. It now seems to have developed a few minor problems that im having trouble with. I have searched around the forum, and while I think I may be heading in the right direction with one or two, I'd like other opinions as well please.
My first problem started after i was away for a while and the car was left standing for about six weeks. The batterery was on its last legs anyway, so when i came home she was completely dead. I got a new batterey and notised the alarm light is now permenantly on - both locked and unlocked. Is there some way to reset the alarm?
Second is the radio...this happened again after i replaced the battery. It now doesnt seem to work! Never picks up an RDS signal and seems to be dead. CD player works fine. Any ideas?
My left indicator works most of the time, but sometimes when i get in the car it doesnt work but will then start working after about 5 minutes!? It has always worked when the car has been serviced so every time i've reported it they can never find out whats wrong!
Turning left makes a low whining noise. From what others have said it sounds like either a hub or bearing. I don't know much and mechanics so is there a way i can check?
I currently have road tyres on but I'm thinking about getting a set of A/T's. Do these tyres generate a lot of road noise and make huge differences to 'economy'?
Well I think thats about it, so any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Thanks for that! Im running 245 70 16 at the mo, so im assuming that 245 75 16's will still be ok and won't rub?
Before I do that tho, I really need to get a handle on that front end noise so that I can get that fixed when I have the wheels done.
I found this post about the left indicator https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/lef...al-inop-46581/ Now from what he has said and my experience, I'm starting to think it might be a voltage problem. I charged my battery overnight and it seems to have worked for the moment.

Thanks. After looking through pages and pages of posts I noticed people mentioning valet mode. I didn't get any books when I bought my jeep so it makes everything that little bit harder! lol
I'll check it out and report back.
** OK, from what I can work out, you need to either do something with the door locks or put the key in the ignition and press some buttons!? Any chance someone could send me a pm about the correct procedure please?

As far as i'm aware, its a factory alarm on a 1999 Grand.
I have two keys and two remotes, although I have only ever used the black remote (the other is an olive colour and the battery is dead).

After taking the jeep to get the transfer case oil changed due to that noise/vibration when turning left, I asked them about the valet mode my alarm seems to be stuck in...
The 99 model doesnt have a valet mode! What seems to have happened is that when my battery died and was flat for over a month, the vin was wiped from the alarm thus disabling the system.
PROBLEM: Alarm light permenantly on. Alarm not working.
FIX: Needs to be re-programmed by specialist.
Cost: £20

I had the same exact issue with my left signal, it would work sometimes and then again sometimes not. Every time that I took it to the dealership they said it was working. Eventually I found a mechanic who finally knew what the problem was. The original turn signal relays were crappy and he put in a new one. 5+ years and still no problems.
