I am getting a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee and air won't work on high does anyone know what this could be and would it be something easy to fix? I want to give this auto to my grand-daughter.

I have a different generation of GC but I had a similar issue and had to replace the control module on the dash. I got a used one off of ebay for $50. The contacts can get gummed up and only work on selective settings.

 

Thanks I will have to give that a try maybe contacts just need to be cleaned.

 

Not sure if yours is the same as mine, but be careful opening it. There is a little steel ball bearing that is in the switch and bounced away when I opened mine.

Yeah, if you open the switch, do everything over a bin/box, so if anything drops, it doesnt go far.

Now i have the same issues, and have resoldered the connections, and swapped the switch with no changes. I dont believe it would be the motor, because its dumb. Send the necessary voltage, and thats the speed at which the fan spins. I believe its in the relay, but my AC/heat work fine on MedHI, so im not worried about making the HI range work. I have tried all the easy resolutions. Good luck.

 

Thanks I think its a relay too. The box you are talking about where did you put and how big I am assuming it goes under the dash?

 

Now that you mention it, I think there IS a relay that switches the load for high. Look for it in the junction box either behind the glove box or in the passenger's kick panel. I think I remember it's behind the kick panel in the 97.

 

No. Remove the dash trim, and then 2-3 screws to remove the HVAC controller, and un-plug the pigtail. Now you can take it to your kitchen and do it over any box you want.

Now you start disassembling the HVAC controller, and this is where you want to be careful, and pay attention. Lots of different small parts. Not too difficult, but not fun. Add a little solder to any connections that look poor.

 

Those controllers are quite cheap on Ebay. I just bought one from a vendor for my 99 GC and it was $35 with 2 day express shipping.
