93 transfer case
I have a 93 grand Cherokee limited and the transfer case went out, I'm trying to figure out which one it is, it has all time 4wheel drive, neutral and 4 low? Also will a 94 grand Cherokee limited with the all time 4 wheel drive transfer case bolt up to my transmission? Are they the same transfer case?

NP249 is all-time 4wd, has a viscous coupler
NP242 has the following settings: 2HI, 4 full time, 4 part time, N, 4LO
NP231 has the following settings: 2HI, 4HI, N, 4LO
I heard there were some early build 93's with the AW4 trans (I6 only?), I dont know what transfers cases they used, but if you found a 94 with full time, as long as you have the same trans it should work. Pretty sure all 249's were V8 so the applications should be the same. I bet someone else is gonna chime in on this to confirm though

there are 3 ways to go...
swap 249 for another 249 and the VC will go out again
swap in 231
swap in 242
last 2 are easy but confusing and you need to know what your doing.
you can only use a case that is 91 to mid 94, they had a gear cut change and it will eat itself if you get one after that date.
you need one with a 23 spline input shaft, and the 249 (your current case) also came in the 4.0's so if you get one from a 4.0 you will have to swap the input shaft.
the V8 has a long input shaft, so only a 249 from a v8 will bolt right up.
any other case you will need to tear apart and swap input shafts, PM for questions
