Default 5.3 vortec or lm7 swap

Now I've done a little research on whats a good engine to put in the wj and I love my 4.7 but I want to trade up to something that's a little more... Modifiable and everything I've found is saying the gm 5.3 and there not to expensive I can pick one up for about 600 right now so I'm wondering where I'd go for wiring harnesses and what transmissions pair well I actually know very little about my tranny or let alone how to do a swap like this so anything will help thanks

Buy the harness and PCM with the engine and mod the harness yourself.

4l60E is what you'll find behind most 5.3L motors. The 4L80 can be used but you'll probably have to cut your tunnel to get it to fit.

If it helps, my 5.3L (XJ) thread on NAXJA:

I took a long time because I used the previous motor (4.6L) and drivetrain to fund the build, and I wasn't in a hurry. You can check the dates on my thread.

If you have all the parts ready to go you can get it done in a couple weeks.

Do you know if the intake manifold can just flip around so the intake isn't right there in front?

Yes it can. There's a couple of folks on Pirate that have done it.
