4x4 issues
according to my dash gauge and my 4x4 selector on my 99 wj 4.0. if you put the selector into 2x4, the dash says part time. if you put it into part time 4x4 the dash says part time. if you put into the full time 4x4, the dash says nothing. and if you go into 4x4-lo the dash says part time.
this is confusing me.. haha what could be my problem? and would it be an easy fix.

Seems to me, the indicator switch is not tripping out when in 2WD. All the other indications are correct. The light is only there to tell you when you are in part time so you won't screw up the T-case by driving in part time on dry roads. It's possible you're not going into 2WD far enough to trip out the switch or the linkage needs adjustment. If it's like my ZJ, there is a 50 cent bushing on the linkage that goes bad.

I'll have to slam it forward to check if its just going far enough. It doesn't feel like its in part time when it's Spose to be in 2x4. I guess the sensor for it is bad. That 50 cent thing the guy above me said something about. I'll have to check with that

The bushing is on the linkage under the car. It is plastic and used as a sound isolater. when it goes bad, it puts a lot of slack in the linkage motion.

This is a WJ. It only has a indicator light on the dash that says "Part time". When it's in Full time or 2WD, it's not lit.
Best way to tell if it's in 2WD is jack it up and see if you can turn the front driveshaft. If it's still in Part time, you can't turn it.

There is no play in the selector in the cab. Have not looked at it yet underneath the vehicle(it's not a daily driver yet). I plan on doing that this Saturday to see what's up. If it turns out to just be the dash light that is acting funny I think I might just live with that. I just wanna make sure it's not in he wrong place and I destroy my t case

As I just said. If you can turn the front driveshaft with one wheel off the ground, you're good to go. If not, you're still in part time.

Did it. Shaft won't spin(neither will the wheel) so my conclusion is its stuck in part time. Anyone know how to fix this? Hopefully cheaply.. Haha

On your WJ, the transfer case is shifted by a cable. I doubt if it's stretched but there might be something in the linkage inside the car that's limiting it's travel. In my WJ, I had a short roll of duct tape over the handle and when I shifted out of 4WD, it stopped the handle short of full engagement. When I came back in with power, it popped out of 2wd and back it part-time 4wd. I knew what had happened and threw the tape across the cabin and put it back in 2wd. This was at about 45 mph on dry roads and I was concerned that I hurt the t-case, but no, it seems to be fine. There is a support bracket under the car that holds the cover of the cable which might be bent.
