Exclamation 4 wheel not engaged

Hi everyone I just bought a 99 grand Cherokee ltd v8 it has the Quadra drive II. well to make the story short I wanted to make sure the system was working so I tried to go and climb a hill and only the the back tire is spinning. From my knowledge on the Quadra drive I know it's supposed to be 4 wheel all time I even put it in 4 low same issue. So what can it be in not familiar with the system in used to the old Cherokee where u just lock it in 4 wheel and go.

Either the hydraulics in the t case isn't engaging when there's a slip, or out don't even have a front drive shaft. I'd get under there and take a look

That transfer case is more like a center differential then a standard t case. It works like normal 2wd until a rear wheel slips. Then it transfers power to the front wheels. I'm not 100% with how it exactly works but it's possible it may be very low on fluid or a valve inside is stuck or gummed up. When was the last time the fluid was changed?

Question

Ok I feel kinda like an idiot its actually got the the Quadra trac 2 not Quadra drive 2 thought they were the same. think it has the vari lok not sure how that actually works never owned one this new I think I got it for a decent price 2300 has less than 200 k and not much rust at all so I know it would have a few issues but nothing so serious I gotta rebuild anything yet than I can see.

Top up the case with special fluid .Dont usse atf4 or whatever service people tell you.ONLY Mopar stuff for that case. It drives a pump which actuates the clutches that send drive to front wheels. Its supposed tom give permenant four wheel drive in a 60/40 split until front or rea wheels slip then it transfers drive. But it wont if its empty 11 Theres a level plug halfway up box undo it and put special oil in until it runs out. Then take it on spare ground and do about five or so figure of eights to circulate oil.

Don't feel so bad. For your issue they're essentially one and the same. The front to rear power split is the same in both systems. What separates the two is the left to right power transfer (which is independent of the front to rear transfer).

Quadra-Drive has Vari-Lok differentials which the Quadra-Track II lacks. These differentials transfer power to the opposite wheel when one wheel begins to turn faster than the other. Thus when a wheel starts to spin the Vari-Lok differential transfers power to the opposite wheel to equalize the two. Note this is done on a per axle basis. If the right rear wheel is spinning the Vari-Lok differential transfers power to the left rear wheel. It does not change the power delivery to the front wheel. That's the job of the transfer case.

I believe Quadra-Drive II is found in later model Grand Cherokees and is not applicable to the WJ series.

What i did notice is both axles are limited slip not sure if that's stock or if someone did it aftermarket. Cause in 4 low are 4 tires rotate whick makes it reall nice for sand and well everything really for that matter. For the price im happy with what I got cause in the end its still a jeep and I wouldn't trade it for any other type of SUV.
