Hey guys what's up? Yea i'm a newbie to this forum but a motor head since i was 15. Always drove/fixed/rebuilt Mopar muscle cars (13 engine's under my belt) Got a question for you guys. My jeep been sitting for 3 years. Had it since 2010 I'm not to savvy when it comes to electrical stuff. I gave her a complete tune up. Lubed all the pistons changed all the oils, engine, tranny, transfer case, front and rear axles and new gaskets on both and a new AutoCraft Gold Battery from Advance Auto Parts. Engine wouldn't crank. Didn't hear fuel pump kick on and fuel gauge didn't move even after putting 5 gals of gas in tank. checked the relays fuel pump relay, ASD relay and horn relay all the same. Switched with horn and they all work. Checked voltage at relay's and voltage was present. (26-volts, does that sound right?) used ignition to get codes and i got 12-42-42-42-55. I know what the first and last codes are but 3 code 42's?
I'm all ears brothers all help appreciated
Thanks a Bunch, Bruce

Welcome to CF. Great to hear all of the experience you have, and hopefully you can share some knowledge on here. Sorry I don't know about your codes, but I am interested how you get these codes from the ignition. How?

Auto Shutdown relay circuit malfunction. Either shorted or open circuit. Where the hell are you getting 26 volts? Should be 12 volts and grounded thru the PCM driver.
To get the codes with the ignition key turn it on, off, on, off, on and wait, count the flashes. Code 55 is end of test. (for IStoleIt's benefit)

I did, my 97 4.0 Laredo still used the number codes. HOWEVER, my 2000 shows "P" codes in the odometer display. 95 and earlier used the CEL flashes. I got confused because my wife's Dodge Caravan had the flashes also and that was a 96.
My 97 4.0 also still had V-belts, but I'll bet your 5.2 has a serpentine, doesn't it?

yep, my 5.2 has the serpentine belt. I always carry a spare belt and tool in my Jeep. While in B'klyn going to work in the city (NYC) my belt broke. started to over heat, battery wasn't charging, water pump wasn't moving. I had to park my jeep. It really wasn't the best of neighborhoods where i had to park the car, but i did. Jumped on train and went to Manhattan. I get off work and head right to the car. Went to pep boys, got a belt and they installed it. (03/15/2012, miles-157,916, Pep Boys Brooklyn, Electrical system checked Drive belt(s) replaced-that's right from my car fax.) They give me a bill for $196.00. I flipped out. I said what the heck is this???? Belt was $42.00 and labor was $154.00. Their manager came over cause i was about to go Postal. He says that labor price is from their Labor Price Book. I said it took less then 5 minutes to do. They had to call the police. So NY's finest comes to the shop and the first thing i do is show my Gold Courtesy Shield. My first cousin is a Detective Sergeant. Now the two cops ask me what I want to do. I said i'm not paying that Krazy price. Now the manager is flipping out and ready to go postal. Cops tell him to take the belt off and put the jeep out in the street. I laughed my butt off. They wouldn't even sell me the $19.00 tool to put the belt on. There was a tire shop about a half a block away, there was three Puerto Rican guy's in the shop I went there to borrow the tool. they said no problem. Fixed it, walked back to shop stopped by store and got 3 24oz Buds and they were happy as all heck.
