Has anybody done this swap, I have a 95 zj and a 231 tcase from a 93 xj and its a 23 spline.

Look on your 249 for the build date on the tag. If it's a later 95 model, you might run into the gear cut change. If so, you'll have to grab a later model transfer case. '95s the bastard children when it comes to this.

Really pay attention to the swap threads, go ahead and figure on having to swap out the input shafts. Even so, it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to do it. The hardest part of the whole thing is getting those d**ned bolts on top of the TC off to drop it.

 

what is this gear cut change?

 

The sun gears, I think they are called are different with change of input shaft. I have to do this after my trans install when my 249 dies. I have a 94 tho.
