I just completed a ~3,000 mile road trip and I’m noticing that my Jeep Cherokee limited seems to have intermittent issues wanting to start after sitting in the parking lot for 24-48hrs. When I go to turn the car on the engine either immediately fires (like almost no crank, just straight to running) or sometimes it goes into a click click click cycle before starting. The clicking cycle will continue to happen even if I turn the key back off, only difference is the engine won’t turn on at that point. The engine always turns over eventually, and the car runs/drives fine once it gets moving.

Weirdly this happened to me last summer too, just about a year ago. Same drive too. Max distance I did in a day was 1000miles (14hrs driving) both times. Is it possible I’m over stressing some part of the engine and causing the failure? 1000 miles doesn’t seem like a reasonable breakpoint for a car but what do I know.

When the repairs were done last year they said it was an issue with an oil sensor/gasket in the engine and it cost $800 to replace/fix. I’m noticing the exact same signs in the weeks before the check engine light came on so I’m trying to get ahead of it if possible. Does anybody have any ideas on what could be going on? Should I just wait for the check engine light and go to the dealer? Any help would be hugely appreciated, thank you!
