2014 electrical issue
New to the forum first post wish it wasn't a post about a problem already, only had the car for two weeks. I recently noticed the center screen and the odometer screen both go blank for no reason. It usually comes right back but today it didn't it stayed totally blank. Its a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 6 cyl I called the dealership who can't see the car til Thursday of next week. I was wondering if this was an issue in the past or if this is new for the 2014 model. Hope its not a start of a major electrical problem.

question for you
with your jeep being so new, you would like to think it's not a defective part that will be re-called. did you have the dealership, or anyone else for that matter, put in a different stereo system or alarm? add any extra's like fog lamps or rooftop mounted lights? if nobody has been under the dash or messed with your wiring at all, it's probably just a loose connection or a defective fuse / relay. for it to have been acting up and then just stop working after only 2 weeks, i believe that's probably what is going on. it's ironic though, usually it's the used jeeps that run great for 2 weeks and then give first time jeep owner's fits. lol

I've had my 2014 Jeep GC Limited, HEMI for one month or so. I only drive it occasionally, it is a second vehicle. Today I started it and the climate control came on AUTO, even though I left it OFF when I last used it. Other times the AC has come on, another time the climate control shut off before I was done driving.
Also today, all the buttons on the front and back of the steering wheel (except for cruise control) stopped working. I shut the engine off and re-started and it didn't work. I reset the radio (I think. I guessed and held the Volume and Tune buttons and it seemed to recycle power to the screen) but that didn't work either. Later on, after being home for awhile I went and re-check it and the buttons seemed to work.
Although I'm leasing it, I put a bunch of money down to lower my payment and was hoping to buy it at the end of the lease. I hope that wasn't a mistake. Going to take a ride to the dealer tomorrow.

Update. Remote started one day, got in and had no speedometer.
Also lost tracking lines in rear view image on screen. Self resolved later. Brought to dealer. Chrysler sent them a thumb drive to reprogram mine and another 2014.
A week or so later, speedometer stopped working, all warnings on instrument cluster were on. Drove right to the dealer and showed the consultant. Dropped back off for who knows how long to try to figure out who knows what.
Every time I see a Jeep commercial for the 2014 GC, I want to put my foot through the tv.

The dealer and Chrysler have come to the conclusion that the radio needs to be replaced. They told me they had to do it on another one. I'm also told there is a significant backlog on orders...hmmm...they know something.

Old fart with a wrench
Today's cars are too complicated with all their electronics to even be diagnosed by the people who built them. I'm thinking you can't buy a new car today without all that "garbage" stuff. If you can't drive without your GPS or internet connection, stay home!
I'm 69 years old and biased, but I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about buying a restored 60's car and just driving it and repairing it until I can't anymore and then turning in my liscence! Maybe I should build a 60 mph enclosed wheelchair.
My 2000 WJ is probably my last newer car anyway!
Sorry to rant!
