2001 jeep grand cherokee temp gauge randomly rises?
The last couple days my 2001 GC's temp gauge has climbed higher than the usual 190° it typically reads. This morning it hit around 250° and the check gauge light came on............. it did go back down a few moments later but why would it spike then go back down? It was -16° this morning. I filled and checked my antifreeze a couple weeks ago and haven't had any issues since until the last couple days it has risen at times and spiked this morning. What could be the problem? What should I look for? Thermostat ????
Please help.
Thanks,
RIZ

Yeah RIZ, it sounds to me like a sticking thermostat. You should have a 210* stat in it anyway. That's what the PCM needs for proper fuel trim.
Personal favorite? Stant Super-Stat. rockauto.com

This morning I went out to start it and it was -11°. I went back in to get ready for work and I came back out about 10 minutes later and it was spiked to 260°.......... and the check gauge light was on. I left it in the driveway and took my daughter's car to work. I figured it was the thermostat but wanted to get some feedback first from the forum.
Dave - Are you the only guy that helps on here? Hahahaha! The post has almost 50 views and you're the only response. It seems to be the norm lately on here. I have helped so many people on here but seem to never get help. Am I wrong? It feels like I've ticked people off or something. It used to be better for responses.

Hey RIZ, I'm on here just about every day at least once, but you can always PM me. I'll always answer a friend.
I will make a suggestion however. Fill out your signature box with your year, model, and engine. Not just the default "Cherokee". It helps a lot.

I'll fill out my profile later today. I hope it helps. I never care about how complete a persons profile is myself, I just help answer questions.
I don't see a Stant Super-Stat in 210° ???

DUH!!!...you're right! The 195* runs there. The fan cuts on at 195* and runs high at 210*. My bad! My temp gauge stays one needle width above or below the center mark all the time.

Yes, I noticed. Thanks. I wish everyone did. It's a lot easier than trying to pick the guy's brain for the info.
