Afternoon,
I am looking at the manual for my WJ. My guess is the hard starting intermittent issue I have is due to the fuel filter as it fits the symptoms listed in the manual. Sometimes takes for ever to to start, can smell fuel around the back half of the jeep. With 170k miles its never been done, and I figure its a good place to start with anyway. Can anyone tell me what kind of quick disconnect each end has? Theres a lot of build up of dirt/road gunk from being in Bethel for 10 years, and I cant see clearly enough. If water wasn't paid for by the delivery or gallon, and pressure washers were common out here Id blast it. Thanks for the help as I truly could use it right now.

 

There are 3 hoses connected to the filter; pressure from pump, supply to fuel rail, and overpressure return to tank. The pressure regulator is inside the filter. They are plastic fittings with internal clips that need to be depressed with a fitting tool. The one from the pump is female and the other 2 are male on the filter. They need to be clean to release so I'd use brake cleaner to blast the dirt out of the fittings as best I could. Even then they may not release easily. I don't remember, but the one from the tank may be steel and need to be repaired/replaced. Mine rotted out under a frame clip so we had to splice it with a piece of rubber hose.

 

Thanks that was going to be my next question, was do I need a special tool for it. While my dad is in Anchorage Ill see if he can pick me up one as there is no good part/tool stores out this way.

 

All that tool is is a plastic ring that depresses the clip all the way around.

 

Fuel outlet pipe from the pump is probably rusted through and leaking.

 

That's precisely what happened with mine. It actually snapped in half when changing the filter.

 

So a bit of efi hose will work if it is rusted through? My dad got back in last night so I get to see what Im working with tonight.
