Default Shortening the cab

Well it's been a little while since I've worked on this but here is a little progress. I cut the front off and am taking 14"s out and will be mounting it back on. I have to clean up the rails so I can use them as backing plates when we weld it back on.

Default Up-date

Well not really a lot to report, but made a little progress on the trailer, I used the metal that I cut out to reinforce the seam since it is the same contour. I dry fitted the front onto but had to remove it because I need to remove a quarter of an inch on the bottom before I tack it and weld it up. Also scored some extremely nice doors for it at the JY. The doors I ended up with would have been a lot of work, plus they are the color I am painting it when its done.
While I was at the JY I spied some RV windows that I am considering using down by the head area of the sleeping, but I am afraid that they might be to hard to use and ordering them new might be best.

Default So Stoked!

I am so happy with the way this thing fit together, I have it ready to weld but I am going to wait till tomorrow. When I am tired I tend hurry and the welding suffers and creates more work. But here are a few pics.

I am curious as to why you shortened the front part of the chassis

Because every inch counts when you take a trailer off road, Also want it to be balanced correctly so that it tows well. I know I don't want to take it on crazy rock trails but up here in these Rockies there are some pretty amazing places to go in the back country, but traffic is crazy, it is no fun to go wheeling the entire day only to come home in a traffic jam with your back all knotted up. I hope to be able to go on a Saturday and come back on Monday when I go wheeling/camping. I did want to be sure to keep the cab long enough to stretch out in while sleeping in it. It still will have close to 8 feet of area to sleep in.

Default Doors

I decided to go ahead and (dry) fit my doors so that I can get the alignment figured out in the front of the doors, I finally got all the doors transferred to my sons' XJ and can start skinning the front doors. I want to be sure that the camper is as safe as possible so I decided to tack the child safety locks so that can not be an issue. I got these doors from a JY. I was going to just recondition the doors that came off my sons' XJ but they were pretty rough. I was looking for a overhead console for my XJ when I ran across these. They are the right color and in great shape (this XJ must have been garaged) so I think it was worth the money.

I have been doing some window shopping for some essentials for this project. This project is going to set me back some $$$$$$ but I want it to be a solid investment.
These are the companies I am getting equipped through:
https://locknroll.com/
http://www.etrailer.com/
I have already got my leaf springs from E-Trailer, I just loaded a carts and emptied it for now. Come on income tax return!
E-trailer does price matching so I plan on hitting them up on the heater (it is $220.00 through Walmart.com)

Default Time for a little progress report

I haven't up-dated for a while, but here is were I am at on this.
Went ahead a mocked up the trailer axle to be sure everything would line up correctly when I build the frame.
