XJ Trailer Camper
2 Attachment(s)
I am really not sure if this would be the right place to start this (the mods can move it if nec.), but here we go. I am finally going to start on my camper. I have posted my concept drawing in other threads, but I will post it here too. I ordered these from E-trailer and will be getting all the stuff I'll need from them also as I go. I also bought a 2,800 lb. trailer axle w/e-brakes from someone on C.L. for $30 a while back. I should be able get started on it this weekend. I will try to take as many pics. as possible.

Really looking forward to this!!

Are you planning on building a frame to sit the body on or just tying the a-frame into the unibody rails?
|
I plan on removing the whole floor, taking the frame and cut out the back part where it starts up to go over the axle and make it a straight frame all the way back to the bumper and brace it to keep the integrity of the body intact so that I can tub the whole bottom. That is how I hope to make it so I can lay a small mattress from the front to the back. It should be quit a bit lower than the bumper enough for our feet to have room under the cargo area. One reason why I want to go with the trailer axle, using stiff springs under the straightened out frame will give it the right stance. it should tow nicely.
I plan on taking the front roofline and moving it back to just in front of the rear door and use the fire wall frame to re-establish its integrity in the front and use the windshield frame to create the front shape. I want to make it both arrow dynamic and give us more head room in the front. I would like to figure a way to keep the body lines clean like this thing was design to be purchased with an xj. I have a buddy that did something like this for his late model panel truck. One thing that will be tricky but interesting to see if I can pull off is taking the front key locks and get them to work in the rear doors. They don't always work well in the front doors as it is? |
Sub'd, would like to see this get built.

Donor Trailer
So I want certain parts for my trailer That would probably cost quite a chunk of change. I was working next door to someone who was selling their old pop-up trailer (Make Offer) So I offered $75. So at the end of the month I'll pick it up. Dismantle it for as much parts as I can use.

can't wait to see the finished product.

Shop clean-up

Took most of the day cleaning up the Garage/Shop. Organized things to make room for my project. I'll be stripping the front end off the XJ and clearing out the interior. So we can start chopping it up. The tongue that is on it was just so we could move it, we will be removing it and start with doing it the right way. (at least the right way in my mind).

Here are some pics of the trailer I bought. I have not raised it yet but I know there are plenty of parts to salvage for my project.

It's been almost a month! :)

I know, work has been crazy and I found a bumper for my XJ and I need to fab something for it so I can get it installed. So I need to get that made before I get back to work on the camper.
