Warped Head

Default Warped Head

Hello All

I am new to the group so here goes
I have a 2000 Cherokee Sport with a warped head. I am looking to swap out the engine,I have now read that the 2000 models are famous for warped heads. My question is can I put a different year engine in that does not have this problem If so what years can I use?? Help in columbus

They are famous for cracking, the block isn't the problem.. the head is.
Put a different head on and you have no problem

Yes but you may have issues with coil pack mounting
Someone else needs to chime in that's more well versed on the different heads

You can get a new head at your local auto parts store for about 300 bucks. I wouldn't suggest putting on a head that isn't meant for your engine. These newer heads are built better and wont warp on you, like the stock one did. When you go to buy a new head take your old one with you to get a core charge. It'll save you about 100 bucks.

You're going to want to get new head bolts also. Your stock ones are already 13 years old, and have been under a lot of heat/stress.

As long as they are in good shape I'm pretty sure they can be reused, they don't stretch like most head bolts do.

From what I've heard you can re use them up to three times. Ive done two heads and i used new head bolts on both engines. mainly so we (the owner and I) knew they were good to go and wouldn't have to worry about it breaking down the road. You never know with these older vehicles.

I always replace head bolts when ever I do a head in anything
