I like where you have your awning mounted. What rack is that and is that a 2000 or 2500 ARB? I mount my 2500 on 65" Thule crossbars and it sticks out too much for my liking.
How do you like those Brown Dog Motor Mounts? Worth it? Any noticeable differences? Vibrations?
I have had Brown Dog rubber mounts for a few years now. Absolutely 100% satisfaction. Worth the money. The engine does not move. Yes they transfer vibrations way more than stock mounts but that is a small price to pay

Forgot to respond to this. Its been a couple weeks now with the brown dogs. I noticed immediately that the vibrations while running felt different. the stock mounts had more play in them so at idle engine movement was longer (left to right movement). With the new mounts you can feel they are more secure and there not as much play in the mounts so vibrations are short (if that makes any sense).
I wouldn't say there is more or less vibration with the brown dogs, it just has a different feel to it. after a couple weeks with them, i think they kind of break in a bit as well.
Did a little surgery on my roof rack last weekend. This was a cheapo universal rack i got at cabelas for $100ish a couple years ago. It works fine but it just didnt fit the XJ correctly. My roof bars were also pretty wore out and did cause some noise and movement when it was loaded.
Anyways i cut the whole rack in half and got some 1/2" and 1" electrical conduit for the extensions. Screwed it back together with self tapping sheet metal screws and primed/painted the added extensions. I had a set of JCR gutter mounts laying around and had to get creative with the connections. Ended up using 3/4" electrical conduit hangers (2 per mount) bolted to the JCR bracket.
I ended up extending it almost 12" and its rock solid when i installed it. took about 3 hours over the weekend and roughly $30 for the material. Heres pics!
A year since my last post! Crazy. I havent done much to the XJ since my last post. In the last year I bought a place out into the mountains (still in CO) however my new place doesn't have a garage. This has kept me from doing anything major to the XJ but a big *** shop is in the works.
The only notable upgrades ive done is sound mat the entire inside. It has cut down alot of the road noise but I still have noise getting in through doors, I need to replace all the 20yo door seals. Add it to the list that keep growing. Walter is running great and excited to hit some trails to camp soon.
I too have Killmat in my XJ - but just the roof section. Definitely made a difference at slow speeds and around town. Super easy to install too! I only get the slight smell of it on hot days but it's not terrible at all.
