Thanks, I try to do it right most of the time. Wish I would've started with the lift I'm putting together now, but you live and learn. I personally went with brown dogs and I like them, a little more vibration, but I also didn't do the washer method. Mostly because I didn't realize I needed washers till part way in.

I have been working on the jeep as I have time , no big rush . Installed the Gibson header , Man it is very well made and fit's like a glove I like it !!
Cleaned up the intake a bit the gibson header came with a gasket but I opped for the Fel-pro , they just work so it got a fel-pro pan and valve cover gasket as well

I have been trying to replace as many of the bearings , U joint , ball joints , as I can as I go , which brings me to the fan clutch shaft bearing assembly mounted to the AC bracket . This looks like an after thought by jeep what were they thinking LOL . Anyway after much reading on many sites it comes down to 3 choices
1, go to the dealership and pay 360.00 for a new AC bracket , as they dont sell the shaft and bearing set up

2 go to the pick a part and get a used one dont like that idea much

3 try to replace the shaft and bearings my self

Reading around the NET I found a few part numbers it seems this is a shaft and bearing set from a water pump a few numbers that I have found 665325 maybe the right one I dont know . OMIX ADA 1710483 rock auto has this but dont say what it is for . 808129 may also work, again I am not sure.
some were in my search a part number crossed ref to a water pump shaft from a CJ5 1960-1971 lost my notes on this . A few sites suggested part # 665325 so I am going to try this one when I get a chance to press it apart .
it was 10.00 for the shaft and bearing's 12.00 shipping A far cry from 360.00 at the dealership , as you can see it is to long I need to make sure I get the flange back it the right spot so the pulleys will line up .
I orded it from Locatebearings.com Phone 1-800-409-3632 took a week to get , we will see how it go's

Ok made some head way , made a spacer that fits snug behind the flange to the housing so I can press the flange back on, and get it back to the same place when pressing it on , it worked well . it's 1 inch from the housing to the end of the shaft I cut the shaft after pressing it in the housing . Not to bad a job if you have the tools .

I all so installed rebuilt 4 hole injectors while I had it apart

Default Well done.

An awesome thread! Really appreciate the detailed information on the restoration and upgrades. Very straight forward, and a good read. Great pictures. Anyone with a high mileage XJ who wants it durable and reliable would be happy to check this out. Thanks.

We certainly do.

There's a a bunch of us out there.

Your work is practical restoration guide to those of us with aging XJ's who realize them for the classics they are.

My wife and I are following your thread, looking forward to more.

I have been playing around with the front bump stops . I don't want my tires to eat the fenders / wheel wells or damage the tires . seems a lot of people run hockey pucks so I picked up 12 for 22.00 . I just don't like this idea all that much I don't think they will hold up over time . I looked around on Ebay and found some Aluminum Round Bar Rod 3" Diameter 6061 x 1" so I bought 10 each 2.31 each 5.15 shipping 28.25 their are the same size as the hockey pucks . I drilled them out and counter sunk the bolts so they dont tear up the top bump stops
The front bump stops seem to be large or small 96 and older are the large size and bolt on, and the small size 97-01 witch just press in I picked up a pair of Daystar KJ09114BK Front Black Polyurethane Bump Stops 27.00 on Ebay 5" over all so they are 2" longer then stock .

Installing the bump stops, they fit very tight with the spring out its easy to use the floor jack to put them in . I installed them dry piece of cake .
I drilled out the lower mount 3/8, bolted two 1" pucks on, put the rotor and wheel back on jacked it up till it hit the stop and checked for clearance, a bit to much I think . Then I removed one puck and check it again looks good to me .
SO --- with 2" added to the upper bump stop and one inch added to the lower stop this looks like what is needed for clearance with a 31" tire , your application may very . hope this helps someone out .

ABS Delete .it is a pretty straight forward job . I bought a brake proportioning valve from a 1998 zj because I will be adding rear disk brakes , just took the guts out and put them in the XJ valve . and I had to replace three brake hard lines " Item 4 ,5 , and 14 " left front 52128381 , small short line for rear brakes 52128170 , and the long line to the right front 52127988AC . and remove the ABS it's self . Then it is just a matter of removing two fuses and the ABS relay so their wont be an ABS light on the dash . I like it, gives a little more room under the hood , and of coarse I will be changing the D-35 to a 8.25 which wont work with ABS, as it does not have a reluctor ring for ABS .

Cool thread! I like where the Jeep is headed. I have those same front bumpstops...I'm definitely going to borrow your tip to install them. How do you like the Core 4x4 arms?

Hey cbs , The core 4x4 arms are their middle of the road Tier Two rubber on one end with currie flex joints on the other end for extreme flexibility . there are a lot good companies out their, for more and less money these seem to be very well made , but I wont know how good till I try them out . I will say I like their Guarantee YOU MANAGE TO BREAK IT, WE REPLACE IT! and their made in the USA,I like to buy things made in the USA as much as I can .
I was checking out your white xj Nice !! did those zj seats bolt right in, or did you have to make mounts and what year are those .

Good to hear about the arms. I'm definitely considering purchasing a set for my rig.

All ZJ (93-98 Grand Cherokees) front seats bolt in to 95 and older XJs by swapping over the factory XJ mounts to the ZJ seats. The back seat requires a bit more fabrication, but isn't that tough. My ZJ seats came from a 97 Grand Cherokee. Here's a couple links I used as info sources if you want to read more into it...

Good looking build so far. Nice attention to detail and a solid parts list.
