alright so paint is $35 a quart for single stage black. And then it will be about $20 for additives. That is using House of Kolour paint, so good stuff! ya! I will pick up 3 quarts of paint and about 2 quarts of additives is what it broke down to i think. I will find out today when i go to buy it haha

It looks like he has spacers under the back of the hood... between the hood and where it attaches to the hinges... similar to what imports do to allow the air to vent out the back of the hood... I have been thinking of doing this too as it worked quite well for all of the imports I did it to... I can't wait to see it with the new paint on it... So did you decide to go with the Gloss or Satin??

yeah i did a 1" spacer on my hood to allow the heat to vent. Man does it help. it is only temp until i can cut into and make it a cowl hood(a good ways down the line).
i decided to go with gloss because i am getting a killer deal on it.
1 gal of House of Kolour 1 stage jet black for $30.99 (like $100-$150 off MSRP). Using the shop discount on top of the in store discount where i am getting it at lol. so gloss it is!
ran into a problem even with my parents 1000 miles away until july 20th they still managed to find out and say no to me making a paint booth in the garage.... Need to find a plan B before i start masking stuff off.....
Picking up paint tomorrow too

seriously....
So today while cleaning up some of the garage i came across a really beauty!!!
I no longer need to buy a paint gun! i found a paint gun that has been referred to as.... "the best paint gun made! EVER!"
DeVilbiss JGA 502
Yeah its an old school syphon feed, probably as old as i am. however, they are still sought after even today because of how good they are! and i can run it on a cheap 20 gallon compressor with out any issues since it does not need as much air to atomize like the HVLP gravity guns do
i am in the process of cleaning up the gun now

alright so it is not house of kolor paint the gallon was $30 YEAH! but the additives would have all added up to well over $200....
So i got some BASF LIMCO paint! Was told it sprays and covers really well and holds up good. So i am satisfied. We will see how it holds up in the long run....
I also found out why i can not paint in the garage! its cause we have a gas water heater.... The very nicely constantly lit pilot light would be a not so great addition to the paint fumes... (good call dad)
Btw i was $136.17 out the door today for my 1 stage paint! (was recommended i go one stage by 3 paint shops so i did)

alright so i am doing a test panel! but it is coming out with ALOT of orange peel. I am running the recommended amount of air thru the gun. It is just majorly orange peeling. I love the way it came out for shine tho!!
any suggestions on what to adjust?
The fan is a 6" fan from 6" away. That is dialed in perfect... The air is at its recommended. But should i go up or down in air?

okay so i got the paint figured out! props to Radio Flyer!(sp). It is pretty much idiot proof paint too..... Real nice and thick when layed out, real smooth. still some orange peel but not to bad... I am going to spray it until i am close to running out of paint. so far it took 16 oz to do a full coat.

i am not a fan of how it turned out....
The paint is easy to work with! laid down really nice and clean like i said. i give it a 6 out 5 for ease of use and quality (of course it is, it's BASF paint). but i give myself a 2 out 5 for prep work....
it all seemed really well working under 100 watt flood lights! it was nice and smooth no rough areas and all of the factory paint cracks gone....(or so i thought)
But i did not use bondo.... i think it was my down fall....
Cause once i washed it, wiped it down with paint thinner and a tac cloth it showed all my little imperfections and the glossy paint magnifies them like crazy!....
it is not to terrible. Once i buff it in the morning we will see how bad it is....
So tomorrow morning i am also going to paint all of the plastics for reassembly. I might do it tonight actually.... But either way tomorrow it will be reassembled
Btw it is on the grass because it was 150* in my paint booth (on the sunny side of the yard) and it was TO hot for the paint...
