Project black sky
A NOTE FROM THE CHEROKEE FORUM ADMINISTRATION:
On September 21, 2011, 21-year-old Brian "96_XJ" Perrine, a fellow CF moderator and long-time forum member, tragically took his own life in his jeep outside of his home town of Las Cruces, NM. The build thread of his beloved Jeep Cherokee is immortalized here so that his spirit and character will live on in the community and continue to inspire us all to be "Selfless over Selfish".
A memorial thread can be found here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f18/lo...-buddy-105616/

Alright so since i just reached 1000 posts i figured i should probably create a build thread.
Well back in aug. 2006 I bought my cherokee from my cross country coach for $2000. It was bone stock with 123,xxx and had every receipt from anything done on the jeep.
1996 jeep cherokee, HO 4.0, HP D30/CHRY 8.35, NP231, 3.07's
first thing i did was tint the windows from the AZ sun
and got a sound system! Diamond Audio HEX components in the doors, and Rockford Fosgate Subs in the rear with a very nice kenwood deck!
then i had the front done in the 5% as well and had to test the flex out.
Then it was time to wheel it!
i needed a new cat, so i redid my entire exhaust.
I took it to an exhaust shop to have the cat replace, i got a 2.5" magnaflow cat welded to the 2.5" glass pack, welded to a custom bent 2.5" mandrel bent tail pipe

He was one of those guys i regularly communicate with and I have had the chance to know his open and juvenile character and spirit, a guy who demonstrated much more maturity despite his young age, a loyal and generous friend always willing to help and with a healthy passion for the mechanical arts.
I want to remember him for all the funny posts and the innumerable pictures he shared with us, always with a smile, a guy by the sound principles, a sportsman, a talented student with an infinite curiosity for everything that was taught to him on the forums and in life. His beloved Jeep Cherokee that he built and modified piece after piece, always on the budget that led him to do the most of the work on his own, like a real built jeep should be, I want to think that he chose his jeep as the final place to commit this desperate act because it was the only place where he could feel understood, his only real friend. I am sure that if this mass of cold steel could have spoken it would have screamed and squeaked its junctions in an attempt to stop him from what he was doing, just as i screamed in my jeep while I drove home after work today.
Brian, Rest In Peace and Forgive Us for not having perceived your pain, you will continue to live in our thoughts whenever we look at our rigs and we will never forget you.
A fellow jeeper.

after that it was time to upgrade tires (265/70r15)
I wheeled it for a while until...
so we fixed it!
I then had a rubbing issue and decided to get rims! (craeger soft 8's 15x8 with 4"bs)

so i fixed that and did a little painting(and i have since learned not to use cinder blocks...)
and then i found a good mounting spot for my hi lift

i got tired of having to store all of my camping gear inside when we went camping so i built my first roof rack!
Then it was time to lift and loose the rear sway bar!

I wheeled it for a while then i realized i wanted to redesign my rack..
this time it was al welded directly to the thule load bars, and was 6'2"x4'2"x8"
works good to haul up to 600lbs.
and i wheeled it like this for a while, and made many trips towing from school to home and what not
And then i wanted to build a bike carrier!
so i did....
then i realized i had built an amazing rack!!

most recently i have built a new bumper!
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/3x...-bumper-49268/
And i think that brings everything up to date pretty much.
I am very happy with my jeep.
There are some things i missed in here. But in my sig are the specs.
let me know what you think so far!
