Nope, still leaking. Guess I'll give it another try when I use up some of the gask I just put in the tank...

The part that gets welded to the floor.

I wouldn't cut it off. If you leave it on you will have some good metal to weld new floors to.

Hmmm, sound like quite an undertaking. Found this write up here -> http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/r...hread-1122602/
Seems to me like this would be the way to go. A lot stronger than the stock thin floor panels but also more work. plus I would imagine that would greatly strengthen the unibody too. Any other good write ups you guys know of?

Well after some more searching I decided to just go with OEM floor pans seeing as how that will work better with my available tools and experience. So, I'm in the process of slowly purchasing the floor pans and came across some from Raybuck auto. Called to check the gauge of the metal but they were closed at the time. Anybody have any experience with what they have? I'm excited and nervous about doing this at the same time, especially since this is my only vehicle so the quicker it gets done the better. Welp here goes...

Purchased the floor pan for the cargo area as well as new U joints for the front driveshaft, since I was starting tto get some noise from them when in 4 climbing some hills near my uncle's house.

Look at that insane suspension travel!

And of course the hill looks a lot smaller in the picture than in person!

Yeah I know I saw the pictures! I'm leaking gas when I go down a steep enough hill so I still gotta fix that, and my U joints sounded terribly unhappy so those are some things I want to fix first. It was good to finally be able to put it to work a little bit though!

Got my lower rear quarter panel fixed and my cargo area floor pan in today. Now to buy a gas tank for the welder so I can use solid core wire.

Got the last of the floor pans in today, so tomorrow after work I'm going to go pick up a tank for my welder so I can use solid core wire. Then starts the cutting and grinding...

Hey, I'm new to welding and I was planning on using flux cored because it can weld to painted surfaces and requires no gas. But are there any reasons or advantages to solid wire?

I'm new to welding too, but from what I've done the advantage to flux core is that the the materials don't have to be as clean, but solid core is a cleaner weld with less spatter and personally I find it easier to use just because I can see the puddle better. Plus since you have a shielding gas the heat doesn't spread as much.

Made some progress on the rear last night. After I get off work it'll be back to it.
