Still haven't found someone to install them for a reasonable price though, only I do have a new lead that will hopefully be good.

and now the fun begins

there is a shop around here that does them for I think $100 per axle. just call around to some shops and tell them you'll bring them 2 axles, completely removed from your jeep, and completely gutted of all internals. that way all they have to do is install gears and send you on your way. hugely cuts down the labor cost

Yea so far I've had 2 people give me quotes for axles on the jeep and they where $600 and $700 so I think I might have to take them off to get a fair price.

If you're gonna take them out and all the way apart you might as well just do them yourself. If you can read a torque wrench you can install gears. That way you know they are set up the way you want. You'd be surprised the way some shops set them up, most old timers set them up by feel anyway so why pay 600 to 700 for some joe reading the instructions, most gears come stamped on the pinion with the length and you just subtract that from the stock pinion length, which gives you a starting point for a shim stack

Lol I was just thinking " if I go through all that work taking them off I might as well do it myself" and I have most of the tools for the job. So if my last lead dosent shoot me a decent price I'll do it myself.

heres a good article on gear installation. tools aint cheap. you'll need a press and a few other specific tools. I've watched people do gears. if you know what you're doing it doesnt look too bad. but this is definitely a service I would gladly pay $100 for http://www.pirate4x4.com/articles/te...sta/Gear_Setup
