It seems like whenever someone brings up 3" lift with 35s people either agree with it being possible and practical or they jump on you like wild dogs, i dont want to be like all the 4.5" with 33s, i think its over used, so im setting out to make it my own. I bought my 2000 xj 4.0 auto in October and until now it's been stock

Attachment 179318

Pretty clean for a western New York vehicle, paid 2,600
Plans
-3" lift
-35s
-4.88 gears
-bump stop
-home brew steel bumpers (I have some ideas)
-possible engine mods
-prolly break stuff

Cleaned up the axles and costed them with bed liner, diffs painted red

Attachment 179321

Picked up a set of 35" monster mudder tires off Craigslist for $400 and mounted them on 15" RCX steelies aka wannabe cragars

Attachment 179326

Front are 12.5" wide with studs :))

Attachment 179328

Back are 14" wide, I think it's going to look better with wider tires in the back because the backs tend to not stick out past the fender as far as the front and this way they will stick out evenly

Attachment 179329

I'm planning on re gearing to 4.88s when I can afford it, until then I'm going to give it a try on stock gears and see if I can pull it off for a lil bit

Attachment 179330

Anyways, I'm lifting it on Friday and maybe doing some fender trimming if I have the time

Should look something like this

That thing's going to look mean! Is this thing going to be strictly an off-road rig?

cliffdiver96 03-06-2013 08:49 PM

Niceee, im planning on a similar build myself-lower center of gravity is more stable :)

It's going to be my daily driver/weekend warrior

Exactly, less body roll on the road, more agility and less tipping off road

Nice! My xj is on 3/33's. I'm curious to see how the whole 12.50/14 wide goes. Seems like a good idea.

Most low cog builds I've seen go on long arms. What are your plans for the lift?

I have a 3" RC lift kit, for now it's just a plain old lift but I'm eventually planning on getting longer travel shocks for more flex and shackles in the back.

Lookin good :)

Xj88 03-07-2013 07:59 AM

I run 3 inches and 35x12.50x17 BFG KM2s..
355s do suck..but leave your tranny in 3rd..youll still have some pep..obviously gas mileage is going to be non-existant.

I am bumping up to 4.5" in a couple weeks though..just because I bought the 4.5" stuff before I was fully committed to what size tires I wanted.

Didn't do as nice as a job as I wanted because I was in a rush and one fell and I should have used 2 cans instead of just 1 but oh we'll ill just peel it off and try again next time.
