Painted my rear bumper end caps last week. Sanded them with 100 grit sandpaper and it was a little too rough. Went over them again with 150-200 grit (not sure what it was), but you could still see some scratches. Two coats each of Rustoleum auto primer and gloss black paint.

^ Already scratched from some woods riding, but it still looks 10x better. After doing my front bumper in Herculiner this weekend, I'll probably just do the rear again with that at some point.

This is my 10th vehicle, and the only one that wasn't a 2 door was my last XJ! Just something about extra doors bugs me... Good luck with your search, I'm sure you'll find the right one eventually.

Looks nice man. I have painted mine before but they have started to blister with the summer heat. Quick question why did you use Herculiner on the front and paint the rear gloss? Im thinking about Herculining all of mine but im not to sure yet.

I was going to paint both, but figured the Herculiner would hold up better. In the picture of my rear end cap, it was already scratched after a couple days. It looks good either way, I just want it to last.

Finally paid my dues... I'm officially a CF supporter now. I know I don't post too much as far as technical info goes, but this forum has helped me so much in so many ways. I feel like the part of my brain that stores XJ knowledge just isn't big enough. Thanks, everyone, for making owning, maintaining, and enjoying my XJ much easier.
Thats what I'm thinking. The Herculiner will be able to take a lot more than just the paint. Nice looking xj by the way.
