if you had an sye you couldn't use the factory rear driveshaft because it uses the transfer case slip yoke (kinda why it's called a slip yoke eliminator) so the sye eliminates the transfer case slip yoke and the new driveshaft has a slip joint in it.

 

SYE ( Slip yoke eliminator ) gets rid of the stock slip yoke on the rear drive shaft making it a bolt on shaft with the slip built into the shaft. Its set up exactly like your front drive shaft when done. So no one needs the other

 

I understand what it is... I think. But keep in mind this is my daily driver and it's not going rock crawling to the extreme just some mud and trails. So would a transfer case drop do the job? And honestly I hope you say yes because I can't afford the alternative.

 

I just saw this I don't even realize it was this cheap. A friend of mine told me the drive shaft was lIke $300 and with the SYE I thought it was another $500 total. Knowing this I'll definitely take this into concideration. Might just be what I end up doing.

 

With a 4.5 rubicon lift you are most likely going to have horrible drive line vibrations. You could try it out, and you may be one of the few lucky ones were the vibes are not horrendous.

Keep in mind, You are making the gap between your diff and the transfer case bigger when you lift the jeep, so having the stock shaft and slip your putting more stress on the u joints do to increased angle of the drive shaft.

You also have less contact on the splines on the transfer case side, worse case scenario. Your drive shaft can fall out of the transfer case and cause a crap load of damage to the under side of the jeep and possibility of damage to the transfer case.

 

Thats for all brand new parts. There are certain front drive shafts you can pick up from the scrap yards that work. Just have to make sure of the correct length collapsed and extended .

 

I got an AA sye brand new, and got a zj front driveshaft for the now, yes it would probably be better to buy a brand new driveshaft, but it has worked out very well so far. It's the cheapest way to go honestly.

The list is endless. but on a budget if you don't have a gas tank or transfer case skid plates hit up the scrap yard and grab em.
Shouldn't be any more then 80 bucks at the most for both.
