How are your metal fabrication skills?

SatiricalHen 01-11-2016 08:53 PM

I know you probably won't want to here this but if I were you I would save more till I could buy a good lift and nice rims first instead of buying a crappy lift and crappy rims and having to redo it all later. Because that's what I did and it sucks. Lost a lot of money on the rims and I'm still riding on my crappy lift because I don't have the spare change to do it right now.

Do you have a recommendation for a good lift? I was looking at the rough country 4.5 inch suspension lift. And I was going to do a fender cut for more clearance

I won't touch rough country again. Pretty much anyone is better.

I've seen lots of crap quality products come from them. Things welded on crooked, leaf springs are too short causing you to spend more money to get decent ride quality and flex, their long arm cross member takes away an inch of ground clearance, and more. They don't care how their product is because there are people born everyday who want to build bro dozers or just want lift and don't want to spend the money on quality parts. I've been there wanted a cheap lift and now I'm stuck with this crappy rough country lift till I get the money to replace it all. I finally got flex in the rear after new shackles and shackle relocators, but if I could do it over I would do long arms the first go around and do everything right. I would've saved hundreds of dollars.

Plus you'd have to save for an sye and driveshaft for that much lift...
You might get away with a transfer case drop. But sye is the way to go...

forgot about this, I did a transfer case drop first and it messed up my motor mounts, transmission mount, exhaust and I didn't have any oil leaks till then, maybe just a coincidence, but maybe not. Wish I would've just done it all right all at once.

Would highly recommend an SYE for an 01.
Both my 98s and my friends 00 had horrible drive line vibrations with multiple lifts

Pro comp 3.5
Rubicon express 4.5
And zone 4 inch ( wouldn't recommend but a tad better then RC )

I planed on doing a transfer case drop and I found a Rubicon express lift that Has it included I cant afford an sye and drives haft or at least not any time soon. Could I get away with just an sye? I plan to but 200 on some steel rims and I have tires now. I just need to sort out how to lift it.

Shorty_mcs 01-13-2016 08:27 PM

Is there anything the Rubicon express 4.5 inch lift kit DOES NOT come with that is nesesary?

SatiricalHen 01-13-2016 08:32 PM

I paid like $180 for my sye and $27.30 for a driveshaft. If you can't afford that then I would wait, it cost you more pain, heartache and money in the long run if you do a tcase drop. An sye is not terribly expensive, and very beneficial. Especially if you plan on off-roading your jeep. I go stuck on my lowered crossmember offroad. Still mad about that.
