No JY gas tanks! Got a JY here with a dozen XJs. I was disappointed!

Good to see you back! You might want to make a new thread for the gas tank question. That way the title will get more attention.

Looks like you and the boys did a good job taking care of that rust. Those rockers will be an awesome project. One of my favorite examples starts at post #66 at the link below.

Making good progress! I do not believe there is any issue putting a 97+ pump in a 96-. Genright sells an extended range tank that uses a 97+ pump and they claim it will work with all model XJs with some wiring.

Can't get the fuel module to spin up, so assuming it is bad. Original factory pump works, so bought a factory replacement gas tank. Going back stock.

My son is building bumpers for the XJ. He goes back to UF this Saturday, and he will be missed.

Someone didn't close the freezer door (upright deep freezer), and everything is thawed. Beef, venison, scallops, sausage... all thawed. Wifey stayed up all night cooking. Had to toss a bunch of other stuff. Life goes on.

Got a sinus infection, and it's 200* outside. Feel like a 20 mile stretch of bad road! Hope ya'll are well. Took some Benadryl... going to bed.

Fallon shaping his rear bumper, Clay building the mounts for the bumper, and Jake doing a little wood work, unrelated to Jeeps. A day at the Kerrs...

Sounds like you're going to be stocked up with food! Feel sorry for your wife. Take care of yourself. Sinus infections can really knock you down. Too bad the 97 tank didn't work out. I wouldn't think a new one is cheap. What style bumper are you and the boys making?

I am feeling better... YAY! Freezer is up and running and just about restocked. Thank goodness deer season is around the corner!

Clay is building just a standard 2x4 bumper, but I'm sort of wishing I went with 2x6. Here are some pics of what we are doing.

Cut out the flange that covers up the frame rail, exposing the whole interior of the frame rail.

A 2X4 will slide very neatly inside the frame rail.

The driver side 2X4 has to be notched to slide under the section where the fuel lines pass through the frame rail (you can't see it since it is slid inside).

Once you determine how long you want the pieces to be, you cut them to length. Clay will cut off the short "ell" at the bottom of the factory mounting strip (don't know what it is really called) so it slides inside the 2X4. He'll mark where the holes will be and drill it. This way you will be able to use the factory mounting points that secure the hitch. We will probably re-use the hitch since the 2X4 won't be thick enough, or protrude low enough to embed a receiver in the 2X4.

And here's a pic of Fallon shaping the ends of the bumper.

Now Clay is leaving to go back to UF. Guess I'm going to have to pick up the slack!

All parts are delivered. We'll be lightly sanding the new fuel tank and painting. Hopefully install this weekend.

PROBABLY going to use a thread to rebuild the fuel pump while it is out.

Oh how I wish! Jeep progress continues to move too slow, and everything else seems to take precedence.

ALL we have done is this...

Clay is center-punching the bumper brackets.

Drilling pilot holes.

He got this far on one side then had to boogie back to Gainesville, with loaded truck, to avoid the impending rain. Guess it's on me, but it's SO nice when you have capable kids!

He got the other side pretty much done with anchor strip tacked in place. Now I'm outta welding gas!

And that is as far as we have gotten. Gas tank is still hanging where Fallon painted it (he's been sick and at the doctor this morning). Not one call on CL for the few CJ and XJ parts I listed! Kind of surprised?

Back in the dead zone for a bit! Still got bumpers to fab and gas tank to install. I hate these delays.

Got the bumper brackets cut to length this afternoon, but now I have to go to work. Man, there are so many ways to make a bumper! I hope mine will be alright. I am thinking, too, that I wish I had used a 4x6 for more extension out from the back, more like a step bumper. The way I have it now the bumper will tuck up under the hatch, which was my original plan. It looks good, but now I have to figure out how to make the tire carrier. Pics later.
