Does the fiberglass work? Obviously welding is the best thing. But is fiberglass a permanent solution? I've read that the vibrations eventually break the bonds of anything we try to fix it with besides metal
This is true about fiberglass to metal. Epoxy can be more flexible. Glassing both sides of metal edge helps hold it together, rather than just over the top.
It may need minor repair every couple years, better than a big hole.
I have used roofing tar on a rust bucket jeep, but we won't go there.
If you use Bondo, try the lightweight stuff for filling large holes.
Defiantly check for further rot to make final judgement call on lifting. Often the floorpanels can look fine from underneath the jeep. But pull the carpet on passenger side and it can be a different story.
Also, I suggest looking underneath the rear cargo area carpet.
From underneath the jeep, use the handle end of a screwdriver or similar to knock/tap on floorboards and framerails. The sound will tell you where the rotten spots are, if any.

Should still work, vibrations and the feel of rebound. Of course if your tool disappears into the jeep, found the problem.
Wear eye protection when doing this..

lol I do recall some of situations when the probe disappeared through
I'll start banging around, see what I can find. Hopefully she just has the ranndom roof problems. We shall see.
SO, changed the oil, filter, air filter, oil pressure sensor (I'll get to that), and cleaned the IAC and throttle body a little.
After changin the oil and filter I turned the jeep on and saw I had no oil pressure. Strange because I had pressure when I drove into that garage.
Yep, dum dum broke the pressure sensor. $30 fix i hadnt planned on. Grabbed a side shot old vs new. Insides of the sensor in case you wanted to know. The kinda put it close doncha think? Its hard enough to get that dam filter out then they put that thing in the way.
Then we moved on to the throttle since I had high revs when shifting.
Since I had the motivation we jumped into the trottle IAC...well at first we tackled the IAS lol. THOSE torx were held in with locktite....broke two wrenches. F%ck!
THEN we noticed there was no **** like the descriptiom said....so we got the ACTUAL IAC off. No pics of that...but heres a shot of the throttle.
Tore apart the cargo hatch area searching for rust from those corners. Well....i found it. If you guys havnt checked your hatch seal, might want to check that. Mine is torn.
That is sad, I feel your pain and frustration.
The problem is with longevity and the fact that the seams and joints of body are part of the frame structure . If the rust was only the rear quarters than it would not be as big a deal. But where else is it hiding..

I know. Its horrible. I just see the jeep physically wasting away in front of me because the PO wanted to drive in the ocean and never clean her. I find samd EVERYWHERE when I take things apart. That hole in the right rear panel is disheartening. I would litterally have to cut the jeep apart to get in there to fix it. The two rear hatch corners are fixable, the metal is solid underneath, a grind wheel will tell the whole story. I live in an apartment with a detached garage but there is barely enough room to fit a car in there so i put my motorbike and tools in there. I definately plan to get another cherokee when this girl has had it. I just will need to start saving NOW :/
