Couple of updates.
Picked up the MSD coil on Thursday.
Got it installed and noticed the idle smoothed out considerably.
In typical form, one thing changed and the Cherokee wants more. The carb started flooding the motor out at idle, and I didn't want to be stuck on the trail with a problematic carb, so a rebuild was in order.
I can't leave well enough alone and so I decided to simplify the carb a bit. Here are some pics of a stock 2se vs. my stripped version.
Take note this is missing the vacuum brake present on the above carb.
Choke butterfly and linkage removed
vs.
Electric choke removed.
Loading the Cherokee up later tonight for the Cliffs run tomorrow.
Couple of random shots.
And this is how my dog rolls in the XJ

I'm finally getting around to building a np231 to replace the np207. The 207 has been a pretty good case for me, but I'd like the aftermarket support the 231 provides. Going to the junkyard over the weekend to hopefully dig up the correct input gear and some other goodies.

Well, I had no luck finding the input gear I needed. Seems they crushed the YJ's they had and none of the XJ's were the right years. I did find one thing I was looking for, a six-gear planetary from an early nineties 241C.
I also ordered a set of HD Offroad No Lift relocation brackets on Friday. I'm trying to get the Jeep working a little better for Moab. I have till October to get things squared away, but I'm sure time will fly like always.

Found this on my front steps today:
Who knew you could pack this much beef in one box... wait, what?

Wish I didn't have plans tonight or I'd be installing these now. I'll be sure to snag some pictures when I install them.

Spent some time working on the Jeep today.
Did my rear quarter cut and fold. I figured this would make my relocation brackets a helluva lot easier to install. If you plan on doing this mod ever, I'd recommend doing it before you bash them in. I've already dominated the drivers side dropping on obstacles and it was a PITA getting it to look good.
Modified the filler hose cover to work with the cut and fold.
Painted the relocation brackets. Not sure if I'm going to start on them today or wait till tomorrow.
Maybe more updates later today or maybe not.

Thanks! What are the specs and plans for your '86?

I honest to God want to thank the little old lady who owned this before me and kept the XJ in the garage. The shackle bolts came out with zero issues. I wasn't expecting that.
Busted out the sawzall and cut out the box. No turning back now...
Ground down what was left of the box and test fitted the No Lift box. Next I drilled out the floor mount holes.
Trimmed the floor plate to fit.
I used one of the provided spacers to mount the bracket below my hitch.
From the front.
Shackle installed
Sitting at 45*
I still have to do the other side, but here are my thoughts so far. The install is straight forward. The hardware that came worked out except for the shackle bolt that was included. The first issue I had was that it didn't fit through the shackle I was originally going to use. I found it did fit through another set I had, so I went with those. When I went to install the shackle though, I found the bolt didn't fit through the bolt holes in the bracket. I ended up reusing the stock bolt, an extra spacer, and the included lock nut. Issues not related to the brackets themselves, my hitch isn't drilled for the middle hole and I pulled the threads out of one of the frickin' nuts in the nutstrip. Typical.
Back to work...

Jacked up my hand yesterday, but a friend was nice enough to come over and help finish installing the drivers side.
I can barely make a fist, but that didn't stop me from flexing the heep out.
As she sits. I'm seriously considering going up another 1/2" to an 1".
So final thoughts after driving it... .
Driving down the road is so much nicer and no more bone jarring hits when going over bumps. Looking forward to seeing the results offroad.

Shackle relocation brackets have been one of my favorite mods. Good choice! Your Jeep looks nice with those aluminum wheels. Are you trailering to Moab?
