Ha, those were for the '88... but it's beached on jack stands so I borrowed them. Most definitely trailering it out there. Figure I'd have more fun not worrying about my junk breaking.

Got the 3.4 on the motor stand today and started pulling some pieces off.
The fuel injection will be staying. I won't miss the sputtering/dying carb on off camber obstacles.
Because I'm keeping the FI, I have to use the stock Camaro pan. It's a little deeper than the 2.8, so my options are go up in lift height or modify the 3.4 pan. Either is a viable option on my end.
Here's the 2.8 pan for comparison.
The factory 3.4 wiring will get pared down and then piggy backed into the existing harness. I currently have an AT ecm, but I'm going to pick up a MT ecm at the JY. I have my VATS bypass module ordered and it should be here next week.
Decided to go with Harvester Red and low gloss black for the engine.
The next step is to pull the 2.8 out of my donor Cherokee for the swap so there's no down time with my junk. I'll continue documenting as things progress.
No, it's not as cool as a SBC swap or a diesel swap or whatever swap you might consider cool. However, I think it'll work fine for me. I've never been heavy on the throttle, preferring to finesse my way through obstacles. The 3.4 bumps me up almost 50 HP and 50 lb ft of torque (160hp/200 lb ft). Heck, I might even be able to merge onto the highway without hoping there's a downhill section coming up to get me up to speed!

Damn straight!
Thanks man!
$100 to your door. You can't beat that!
Man, some states have some crappy lift laws!

Started ripping into the donor this afternoon. I got pretty close to pulling the motor when the rain started.
Just the motor mounts remain and out it comes...

I didn't have time to do much of anything today, but I did crank out an EGR delete plate for the intake. I'm going to see which manifolds I end up using before I bother to make the manifold side delete plate.
I'm also waiting on a friend to get me the Camaro wiring diagrams so I can start in on the harness. Besides the mt ecm, I need to see if I can find a car with the AC delete pulley on it at the JY. Keeping the FI makes this swap a little more complicated vs. keeping it carbed.

Thanks man.
----------------------------------------------------------
Got some more work done today.
Picked up the AC delete pulley from Advance Auto. Ordered it at 4am in the morning with a discount code and picked it up at the store. I know when I go to the JY over the weekend I'll find like twenty of 'em .|....|.
Painted the upper intake plenum. I still have one more coat to go.
Started working on the wiring harness. Fun? Ha ha... no.
Done! Just need to get some new wire loom and tape it up.
I'm trying to figure out what to do for the VSS signal. I've been looking at the VSS offered at jagsthatrun.com as a possibility. Now I read that some of the Cherokees had a VSS with a cable driven adapter. Anyone know if this is true? I'm going to crawl under some vehicles at the JY and see what I find. If I can indeed find one, I heard that the ecm can be tuned to see a different VSS signal. I'd want to double check with the tuner ahead of time, but these are some options I've found so far in my research. If anyone has any other input, let me know.

Did a little work this afternoon. I was told that even though I like Jeeps, I need to go back to building cars again. According to my friend, I'm putting too much work into making my engine pretty. I guess old habits die hard.
Polished the TB.
Did some painting.
Spiffy.
Put 'em together and you get this.

Got the motor/trans/t-case out of the Donorkee.
So here's one of my little PITA projects.
The flexplate off of the 2.8 needs to be neutrally balanced and so far I haven't found a machine shop willing to do it (WTF?? Flywheel, yes. Flexplate, no). I did find a site (http://www.engine-parts.com/GMV6/gmv6ps1.html) that carries 'em, but they're a bit spendy at $175 with shipping. If you're wondering why I couldn't use one off of a later 2.8, it's because of the Chrysler trans.

Some updates:
Got my VATS Bypass in the mail today
I also picked these up from another forum member today
Who the heck thought to use Torx bolts on the block?
Worked on tearing the block down some more
Nice and clean
As soon as I get my flexplate squared away and the motor re-gasketed I'm going to start swapping everything over into my junk.
