as a resident of new jersey i know the DVM regulations can be a big PITA but as far as i know tube doors, or no doors are perfectly legal. A SIDE MIRROR you do have to have though. i would imagine the 5-0 wouldn't give you any problems with tube doors since we see it on wranglers around here all of the time and i've seen a couple tube door XJs driving around here too. IMO your good to go with tube doors, just don't take it to inspection without doors i could see them saying something about that

IT IS 100% ILLEGAL! I did it, nearly got the jeep impounded. It is considered a 3rd party modification and not a factory option. I had oversized mirrors on both sides. I have the ticket lying around somewhere. let me dig it out and I'll give you the statue number.

Here ya go, statue number 39:3-44 It is considered an "unsafe vehicle" and is grounds for impound. I got away cause I did not have any passengers. I got a royal chewing to boot.

If you have any fab skills I recommend making tube doors outta the spare tire carriers from a blazer. It will save you a decent chunk of change, and they're a heavier gauge than most tube doors. If they give you a hard time, there is no set law regarding cherokees. They fall under the general statute. So if you get a ticket, fight it, and. win, you'll set the precedent for the state. I wanted to fight it, but the 300+ potential court cost wasn't worth it for a 54$ ticket. Well best of luck. I recommend a dremel with several packs of cut off wheels, a can of pb blaster, a good size hammer, and a bunch of varying size screw drivers (flat head) that you don't care if the ends break or chip. Also if you go the tube door route, remove the crush sleeves from the hinges. It makes installation and removal of the tubes and full doors much easier.
